Meet the donkey

Harmen Backhaus

DevOps engineer

Safe, stable and scalable, exactly what our church app deserves.”

In recent years, Harmen has gained experience hosting webshops and developing the backends for the NS App. He now uses his knowledge of AWS and IT to help grow the Donkey Mobile platform to over a million users.

My career began at a retail agency that built online stores, where I conducted my first migration of physical servers to AWS. I then worked extensively with various cloud providers for businesses and, for Donkey Mobile, at NS (Dutch Railways) on a scalable, stable NS app.

After switching to backend programming, I finally realized I prefer cloud and DevOps work. When I saw the DevOps engineer vacancy a while back, I thought, "Why hasn't this position been filled yet?" Because working with AWS, automatic software releases, smart monitoring, and NodeJS backends were all familiar to me.

What particularly resonated with me during our first conversation was Donkey Mobile's mission: to help Christians follow Jesus together through effective communication within the church. In my personal life, I see the added value of having friends in church and being involved. I believe a good church app contributes to this.

And to do this properly, the IT behind the app must be secure, stable and scalable.

Do you, like Harmen, want to build the future of the church?

We are looking for talent!
